Description

Natural rubber (NR) is a versatile and adaptable material characterised by its ability to accept and recover from large deformations. Unlike steel or other metals it possesses some inherent damping characteristics and can store a larger amount of elastic strain energy per unit volume, making it an ideal material for use in dampers or as a rubber spring. Natural rubber compounds have a high tensile strength, long fatigue life and excellent tear resistance

Natural rubber compounds also exhibit low hysteresis as compared with other rubbers, this results in lower heat build up during repeated deformations; thus making it an ideal polymer for use in vibration isolation. Other mechanical properties such as resistance to fatigue, abrasion resistance, tear resistance and flex resistance are also generally superior in these compounds (as compared to synthetic elastomers)

NR compounds are not suitable for applications requiring contact with oil, kerosene, diesel, petrol or solvents like benzene, toluene etc. These compounds also exhibit poor oxygen and ozone resistance (although this can be some what improved by adding anti oxidants to the compound)

Description

Excellent resistance to weathering and ozone, water and steam, with good performance in castor and some phosphate ester based fluids. It's low and high temperature capability is good, having excellent resistance to set with good resilience. Also high temperature braking systems employing castor based fluids for mouldings subjected to weathering and ozone and for seals in chemical plant due to its good chemical resistance.

EPDM is particularly useful when sealing phosphate-ester hydraulic fluids and in brake systems that use fluids having a glycol or silicone base.

This results in a highly fluorinated elastomeric compound with exceptional temperature resistance, compatibility with a wide range of aggressive chemical combinations and outstanding resistance to permanent deformation.

Description

Chloroprene rubber (CR) also commonly referred to as Neoprene was one of the first synthetic rubbers to be developed commercially. Like Natural rubber (NR) compounds Neoprene rubber compounds can also be compounded to achieve low hysteresis and high resilience, both of these properties are desirable for products used in vibration isolation

Chloroprene rubber compounds also exhibit excellent resistance to flex crack initiation and to flex-cut growth when a surface flaw occurs. These compounds also exhibit good ozone, ageing and chemical resistance. At low temperatures CR compounds progressively stiffen as a result of crystallisation. This phenomenon is most rapid at temperatures around -10°C, thus CR based vibration isolators must be avoided if low temperatures are likely to occur during usage (consider Silicone or Natural Rubber compounds for low temperature use)

CR rubber compounds are normally self extinguishing and resist combustion to a greater degree than products made from non halogen bearing polymers (like Natural Rubber). Neoprene also offers excellent bonding to steels, stainless steels, aluminium etc. through the use of proprietary bonding agents, thus making it a versatile polymer for designing rubber to metal bonded anti vibration components
